ha! Tricky. I figured the US did have an official language because individual states have official languages. At least, I don't know how many have English as their official language, but I know there are 30 states that have an official one.
The most literal translation isn't always the best one... Spanish speakers mostly use "yo" for emphasis.
The Yo is not necessary so you do not need that. Most people will leave out the Yo when they say this.
